This was a treasure chest of a nose – a Nomad’s tent of Middle Eastern pleasures – a gift of long years – Turkish Delight, toasted coconut, spiced plums, Charentais melon, concentrate of mango and passion-fruit, honey, brown sugar, malt loaf and treacle tart, with some linseed oil. The palate somehow managed to combine invigorating spice (liquorice, coltsfoot, cinnamon, clove, tobacco, sugar-coated fennel seeds) with calming sweetness (toffee, Manuka honey, Crunchie bars, candied orange dipped in dark chocolate).
