Green River Distillery

McCulloch built Green River on the Ohio River site, and it became a major producer of Kentucky bourbon.^1,2,3 On 24 August 1918, a fire destroyed the distillery, four large warehouses and 43,000 barrels of whiskey.^1,11,12 McCulloch had already sold the plant to Montaigne & Co. of New York City, and Prohibition followed.^1,11,12 After it ended, the owner's timeline says, the distillery was rebuilt in 1933 and the Green River brand was sold to another company.¹

Charles Medley's father and uncles started the Medley Distilling Co. on the site in 1940, and the distillery later passed hands several times.^2,4,5 Production ended in 1993.¹² In 1997 Charles Medley opened a distillery under his own name there, but in 2008 Angostura said the plant had not been used for 15 years.⁴ Angostura Limited had paid $3 million for 23 acres, five warehouses and the stillhouse, and planned to reopen the Charles Medley Distillers Kentucky plant.⁴ The site stayed mostly vacant until 2014.^12,13,14

Terressentia, a South Carolina firm, bought it in May 2014; distillers Ron Call and his son Jacob joined, and Jacob soon became master distiller.^12,13,14 Terressentia broke ground in July 2015 on a restoration that included six warehouses and a 54-inch column still.^1,2,12 The plant made spirit again in September 2016 as the O.Z. Tyler Distillery.^1,2,14 The name honored O.Z. “Ty” Tyler, creator of TerrePURE, a process the owner said was meant to speed up ageing.^6,14
