Jackton Distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery on the Kean family's farm near East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, and filled its first cask on 12 February 2020.1,2,3 Since 2025 it has malted barley in its own malt house on site, which Whisky Magazine calls quite rare.1,2,4
James Kean and his family turned a community sports hall on the farm into the stillhouse.1,2,3 The distillery opened one month before the COVID-19 lockdowns and made hand sanitiser in its stills for Hairmyres Hospital.5 In 2021 it filled virgin oak casks from the Chambord Forest in France, which Wikipedia, citing a Daily Record report, calls a first for a Scotch whisky distillery.
Before 2025 it used locally malted Scottish-grown barley; that year it began running its own malt house, with 2 five-tonne rotating drums.1,2,4 The mash ferments into a beer-like wash in washbacks, the fermenting tanks, which are made of stainless steel.2,6 Sources differ on how long fermentation lasts: Wikipedia gives 90 hours, and the Strathclyde Telegraph said six days, which it said gives a lighter, more floral spirit.2,5 The whisky is stored on site in many kinds of casks, with a preference for sherry casks and French Chambord casks.3,6
