A grain mill
Castletown Mill, built by James Traill, had a central double kiln, and water from the Stannergill Burn turned its wheel; the only other known double mill is in Kirkwall.4,5,6 It closed in 1930, and the RAF used it as a store in World War II before it fell into disuse.2,4,7 In 2007 King Charles, then Prince of Wales, said he could not bear to see the mill decay further.8,9
A new owner
Claire and Martin Murray's firm, best known for Rock Rose gin, bought the mill to turn it into a distillery.2,4,10
