From a kitchen still to the Old Smiddy
The distillery dates the Old Smiddy on Lower Castlehill to 1888, but Historic Environment Scotland's record dates the building to 1883.1,3,5 A December 2011 survey of the former church hall found the roof in a poor state but the shell generally sound.5 Stirling Council planned emergency stabilisation work on the building at the time.5 On 28 October 2015, their 26th wedding anniversary, the McCanns distilled their first Stirling Gin in a 2.4 litre copper still named Jinty.1,2,4 In 2017 they bought the Old Smiddy, a former blacksmith's, to turn into a distillery and visitor centre.4,6,7
