Girvan Distillery

From 1966 the Ladyburn malt distillery worked inside the Girvan complex, making malt whisky for Grant's blends.^2,10,11 It was dismantled in 1975, when the grain side of Girvan needed to expand.^2,10,11

The vacuum still installed in 1992, No.4 Apps, is a column still that works under reduced pressure.^7,8 Girvan's distillation is multi-pressure, and William Grant's Jonathan Cornthwaite says distilling at low pressure gives a lighter, cleaner spirit.^2,3,4 Running under vacuum keeps wheat and barley from sticking to the still plates and burning, which helps give the spirit a citric, floral, fruity and elegant character.⁵
