Fizzy apple sherbet tingled the tongue as we stood at the end of the pier, the salty sea air carrying wafts of quince jelly and singed pink grapefruit skin. Opening our lunchbox we were delighted to find a fresh pea and mint salad with dill and spicy horseradish dressing, a few toasted almonds and warm pumpernickel bread.
