A wonderful nose, full of restrained, heathery peat smoke, forest mushrooms, coastal freshness, dry waxy notes and more subtle aromas of beach pebbles, gorse, heather honey and sweet menthol – a super-classical Orcadian malt, we all agreed. With water we got vapour rubs, camphor and menthol balm, wintergreen and many other medicinal herbal vibes, plus hessian cloth, cedar wood and deeper, firmer, drier peat-smoke notes.
