Our noses cruised about in a new car, before exploring a landscape of cut grass, wildflowers, forest petrichor and plentiful sun-ripened fruits, mainly pears and raspberries. Fruit also dominated the palate – poached pear, honeydew melon, gooseberry jam, key lime pie and sherbet lemons; that citrus, accompanied by ginger, left tart and tingling after-sensations.
