The initial nose had lemon and unripe melon, then some sweetness (marzipan, fudge, jam) and vaguer earthy hints (prosciutto, tobacco, balsamic). Our palates were awakened by zingy, zesty notes of orange, lemongrass and tart grapes before deeper, darker elements appeared – figs, treacle toffee, cigars and leather, with ginger, black pepper and incense to finish.
