One sniff and we were on a Caribbean beach at sundown, sipping exotic cocktails (Tom Cruise was showing off) but it also had much more – banana toffee, fruit-cake, toasted pineapple, Cajun spice, desiccated coconut and eventually, clean tyres on a new sports car. The palate seemed quite Armagnac-like – flavours of beach-cooked paella, cane sugar, Madagascan vanilla, perfumed pear, lychee and monoi oil (Tahitian floral perfume-oil).
