The nose seemed gentle at first – stewed apple and custard, Party Ring biscuits and strawberry jam – then hints of wood sap, white pepper and gooseberry bushes arrived. The neat palate was mouth-watering with Mon Cheri chocolates, Anthon Berg plum marzipans and kirsch; a tickle of nutmeg, cinnamon and oak to finish.
