Hombo Shuzo's whisky distillery at 798 metres in Miyada, Nagano, opened in 1985 as the Shinshu factory and known as Mars Shinshu Distillery until it was renamed Mars Komagatake Distillery on 1 March 2024. Distillation stopped in 1992 during the domestic whisky slump and restarted in 2011; the stills were renewed in 2014 and the site was rebuilt with a new still house and visitor centre in 2020.
