From plan to growth
The Uist Distilling Company, owned by Angus A MacMillan and his son Angus E MacMillan, was formed on 18 December 2019.8,9 In July 2020 it lodged plans for a Gramsdale distillery, hoping to make whisky, rum and gin there from early 2022.4,9 In 2022 it renamed itself MacMillan Spirits Co Ltd.4,5 The visitor centre and café opened in April 2025.6,7 In October 2025 the distillery announced a £1.5 million equity investment from the Investment Fund for Scotland, through Maven, to help scale up production.6,7
