Frey Ranch is a whiskey distillery on the Frey family's farm in Fallon, Nevada, founded by Colby and Ashley Frey in 2006.1,2,3 The farm grows all the grain the distillery uses, and most of what it makes is bourbon.4,5,6 It could not sell spirits until 2013, and its distillery building opened in 2014.3,7,8 Its first whiskey went on sale in December 2019.3,9,10

In 2006 the Freys got a federal experimental distilling licence.1,2,3 They made brandy and very small amounts of whiskey on a homemade 25-gallon pot still, but could not sell a drop.3,7,14 In 2013 they helped get Nevada's first craft distilling laws passed.6 In July 2013 they received Nevada's first craft distillery licence.15 That year they broke ground on a distillery, and Colby Frey helped design the custom still it ordered from Vendome Copper & Brass Works.7,12,16
The distillery opened in 2014 with a 500-gallon pot still, a 24-foot continuous still and four 5,000-gallon fermenters.8,10,12 In 2015 the ranch was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Douglass-Frey Ranch.17 Its first whiskey, a 5-year-old bottled-in-bond straight bourbon, came out on 11 December 2019.3,9,10 In 2020 it planned to phase out the wine, vodka, gin and absinthe it had sold while its whiskey aged.3,16,18 That year it added a second continuous still and doubled the size of its pot still.12,18
In 2023 it added 2 fermenters and another mash cooker, expected to raise whiskey output by 50 percent.3,12 In May 2026 it named Hotaling & Co. its national sales and marketing partner, to take effect 1 July 2026, while keeping all production.2
The ranch grows dent corn, winter wheat, barley and rye for its whiskeys.4,5,6 It malts its own grain in an on-site malting house, using a malting drum, and has malted corn, wheat and rye as well as barley.3,6 In 2020 its continuous still was heated by steam.9 The spirit is double distilled: stripped in the continuous stills, then run through the pot still one batch at a time.3,9,18 There the distillers keep the heart of the run and set aside the heads and tails, the first and last parts of the run.3,9,18 In 2024 bourbon made up 80% of its output.3,6 Its whiskey is aged and bottled on the ranch, in warehouses that are not heated or cooled.3,9 The warehouses are kept around 70% humidity to limit the angel's share, the spirit lost from the barrel by evaporation.3,9
