Penderyn Distillery, in the Brecon Beacons National Park, made its first spirit on 14 September 2000, ending a break of a century in Welsh whisky distilling.1,2,3 Its owner, the Welsh Whisky Company, was founded in 1998 and remains privately owned, with over 60 shareholders.3,4,5 Unlike traditional Scottish pot stills, its Faraday stills make spirit in a single distillation.2,3,6

Pure banana juice with oats and white chocolate on the nose, followed by elegant fruity notes, green banana, green tea, and a saline touch.

Dr Jim Swan, involved with the distillery since the beginning, died on 14 February 2017.3,5,11 Penderyn calls him both its first master distiller and its master blender, and he shaped its house style of bourbon barrels and Madeira wine cask finishes.3,5,11 Laura Davies, who joined as a trainee distiller in 2012, became distillery manager in 2016 and General Manager of Distilleries in 2021.10,12
