Indri is Piccadily's malt whisky distillery in Indri, Haryana, which began making spirit in 2010.1,2,3 Piccadily set up a sugar plant here in 1994.4,5 It now has 14 copper pot stills.1,6,7
In 2007 Piccadily set up a distillery beside the sugar mill, making ethanol and other spirit from molasses and grain.3,4,7 Chairman Venod Sharma then had Praj Industries build the malt plant, with 2 wash stills shaped with a goose neck and 2 spirit stills with onion-shaped heads.1
Tropical fruits and smoke can mingle very well, but here the sharp peat and woody notes make the whisky feel unbalanced.
Slightly sweet front but a bit of burn on the back
The distillery added a pair of large pot stills in 2021.5 When the first Indri single malt came out in 2021, Scottish distiller Graeme Hamilton Bowie was master distiller, with Surrinder Kumar, formerly of Amrut, as master blender.5,6 In November 2024 Piccadily announced plans to raise malt spirit output from 12 to 30 kilolitres a day.4,8,9 On 2 April 2025 it opened a visitor centre at the distillery, with guided tours and tastings.6,10 By the quarter ending 30 September 2025, Piccadily reported the expansion commissioned, with a malt plant of 30 kilolitres a day.3
Its 14 copper pot stills are 7 wash stills, for the first distillation, and 7 spirit stills, for the second.1,6,7 Its six-row barley is grown in Rajasthan and malted by Soufflet and Barmalt.6,11 It makes spirit from both peated and non peated malt.5,11 Fermentation, where yeast turns the sugary wort into a beer called wash, settles after two days.11 The wash is distilled twice, and large copper coils in cold water turn the still vapour back into spirit.11 Piccadily says its stills are designed to make a light, floral and delicately fruity new spirit.12 Its spirit ages in Northern India's subtropical climate, in maturation warehouses that hold over 75,000 barrels, with an on-site cooperage, or cask workshop.1,6,12 A trade magazine said summers near 50°C and winters near 0°C make spirit evaporate fast, so it reacts with the wood much faster than in Scotland.1,6,12
