A really nice Mannochmore with excellent balance, blending ripe orchard fruits and sherry-rich dried fruit with coffee, marmalade, vanilla and baking spice.

DCL, which John Haig & Co. had joined in 1877, built it with larch washbacks, the wooden tanks where fermentation happens, to meet growing demand for blends.1,2,3
It was mothballed in 1985 as demand fell, amid rumours that it would not reopen.1,2,4 Guinness bought DCL in 1986; Wikipedia dates the move into United Distillers to 1987.1,6 The distillery reopened in 1989.1,2,5 After a brief closure in 1995, it ran in turns with Glenlossie, a year on and a year off, sharing the same staff.5 By 2008 it ran all year with its own crew.5
In 2013 Diageo spent £9 million on a new stillhouse, 8 new washbacks, a new mash tun and two copper stills to double its capacity.1,5,7 Whiskypedia's history says it now has eight stills, its timeline says four and its fact box 6; Wikipedia lists 3 wash and 3 spirit stills.1,5,7 It heats its stills with steam.1,5 Its water comes from the Bardon Burn; Difford's Guide says it is drawn from Mannoch Hill, which gave the distillery its name.1,4,5 Its malt is unpeated; Whiskypedia lists the supplier as mainly in house, while Wikipedia names Castle Head Maltings in Elgin.1,5
