The Mars Komagatake Distillery, formerly known as Mars Shinshu, is located at the foot of Mount Komagatake in Miyada-mura, Kami-ina County, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. At an altitude of 2,600 ft (800 m) above sea level, it's Japan's highest whisky distillery. The distillery is surrounded by natural water springs.
The distillery was founded in 1985 by Hombo Shuzo Ltd, who have been producing shochu since 1872. Whisky is only distilled during the island's harsh winters. The distillery produces single malts, world blends, and pure malts blends. Some of their bottlings include single casks, limited editions, and blends.
